Principal's Message

Welcome to the Wooroolin State School website and thank you for your interest in our school.

Wooroolin State School was established in 1901 and has thrived throughout its one hundred years of service to the Wooroolin community. The school is situated in the township of Wooroolin, approximately 20 kilometres north of Kingaroy and one hours' drive from the picturesque Bunya Mountains.

The school is an active member of the South Burnett Alliance of State schools, incorporating the Kingaroy District Small Schools Association. This Association includes Wooroolin, Coolabunia, Kumbia, Crawford, Tingoora and Durong South State Schools. Administration and staff of these schools have a strong network which aims to promote quality educational outcomes for all students.

The school motto Make Wooroolin Proud is a living motto which encourages confidence, independence and positivity in our student community. Through our motto, our school empowers students to be Productive, Responsible, Organised, United and Disciplined.

Students are encouraged to be active leaders through our leadership programme. Senior students may elect to become a student leader in one of a number of areas including Health & Fitness, Media, Gardens and the Environment and Fun & Fundraising. Leaders are supported by students in the senior group and have a teacher-mentor attached to their team. Actions are promoted and discussed at our monthly Student Council meetings and students are strongly encouraged to take ownership of their proposals.
Wooroolin State School is also the home of the State's only Primary School Bugle Band. The Band is an important part of our Wooroolin heritage and is highly valued by our school and wider community.  The Band has been in existence for over sixty years and regularly plays at a variety of venues around the South Burnett. Membership means the extension of musical and organisational skills as well as self-discipline and team work. The band is led by our Band Leader, Mr Noel Selway and is supported by the Wooroolin State School P&C Association

In the last five years our grounds have undergone substantial transformation. Extensive gardens, including a grassed area now revitalise the area under our century-old camphor laurel trees. A large junior playground was completed in 2010 and compliments the senior playground in existence.  A sandpit and active learning space is complete with a large wet play area which includes a handball court. The school also has a large undercover play area as well as a tennis court/basketball court and extensive ovals.

Each student is valued as an individual learner at our school. We believe every student has the right to succeed and that means every student’s strengths and weaknesses are developed.

Thank you for reading our Welcome.  I invite you to take some time to view our links and look forward to sharing your child's educational journey at Wooroolin State School.
